What is a Radius Gauge for guitar? All guitars, with the exception of classical guitars, have a slight curvature on their fretboards. The radius gives the player a bit more comfort in playing. A guitar radius gauge (or fretboard or fingerboard radius gauge) is used  to make sure the fretboard radius matches the string radius setup. This is so the instrument is set up to produce the correct sound and so there is an optimum the level of comfort for the player. Each manufacturer seems to come up with a slightly different size radius. Some manufactures have used different radii for the same line of guitars of the years.
